Extensor indicis proprius tendon transfer for extensor pollicis longus rupture
The extensor pollicis longus (EPL) tendon is one of the most frequently ruptured tendons. The EPL is the primary extensor of the interphalangeal (IP) joint of the thumb and is also important in metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint extension. The loss of this tendon leads to an inability to extend the thumb and raise it to the level of the palm, leaving the patient with a useless thumb (1). Clinicall...
متن کاملClosed extensor tendon rupture and distal radial fracture with use of a gymnast's wrist support.
We report a case of delayed closed rupture of the tendon of extensor indicis proprius in a skeletally immature individual. This occurred following a minor greenstick fracture during use of a gymnast's wrist-finger support. To our knowledge this unusual complication has not been described previously.
متن کاملMultiple Tophaceous Gout of Hand with Extensor Tendon Rupture
A 45-year-old man presented with painless subcutaneous masses bilaterally on his hands and loss of motion or contracture of the fingers. Initially, drug therapy to reduce the serum uric acid was administered and was expected to reduce the tophi. However, during observation at the clinic, spontaneous rupture of an extensor tendon occurred, and surgical repair of the tendon and resection of the m...
متن کاملRupture of the extensor pollicis longus tendon after Colles fracture.
During the period 1973-1986, 116 patients with rupture of the extensor pollicis longus tendon were operated upon. The lesions were categorised into three anatomical levels: proximal, intermediate and distal. Direct suture was performed for acute lesions; later reconstructive procedures were by means of tendon transfers or free tendon grafts.
متن کاملExtensor indicis proprius transfer for rupture of the extensor pollicis longus tendon.
We reviewed 21 patients with 22 ruptures of the extensor pollicis longus at a mean of 5.3 years after transfer of the extensor indicis proprius tendon. Of these, 19 with 21 transfers described the result as good, and two as fair. The mean deficit of extension between the operated and unoperated thumbs was 1.4 cm, and the mean flexion deficit 0.6 cm. Pressure gauge measurements showed that the s...
